Okay so i live in this geylang "condo" which entitles me to a pathetic growth divendend of only $400 while others are getting like $700 in a more spacious and luxurious HDB? Like wth rite! Yet once again, that's not the point of this post.
As i passed through the gates into my estate, to my dismay, the security guard on shift today that day was unfamiliar to me. Moreover what irked me was...
...well he wasn't really on his guard and my residence wasn't any more secure.
Okayyy cut him some slack! Maybe he's just taking up a comfortable position to monitor the CCTV? Maybe he has an acute sense of awareness of his surroundings and his niche is CCTV montoring! So i decided to put my sneaking abilities to good use.
I decided to creep in.
Let me try to get to get to see his face. Okay that it is his leg. Need to get closer...
Okay his legs again. Careful they probably stink.
Oh yes i see his face now! He's... not watching the CCTV.
What a disappointment. Every month we pay this amount called the Maintenance Fee and a proportion of this is to pay the security guard his keeps to keep vigil of this estate.
Just imagine.
"FIRE FIRE HELP! Somebody!!"
HELP HELP SOMEONE'S DROWNING IN THE POOL.
HELP HELP I'M BEING ROBBED
HELP HELP A PROSTITUTE IS MOLESTING ME.
HELP HELP MAS SELAMAT IS IN MY LIFT!
I think u finally get my point.
The competency of security guards have always been in question. Most of the time the incumbent guards are old but i guess nothing bizarre really happens to test their mettle. This is usually the case during peace time, when everything is safe and sound and no one questions anything. Citizens only start pointing fingers when something goes wrong. Even so, when something goes wrong, nothing even happens! Look, this security guard is going to come back again another day. And he's still going to get his paycheque.
Looking at the bigger picture, i guess i'm just unhappy with the fact that some can earn their pay by not doing anything. I've seen this happening amongst some SAF regulars. It happens. Sometimes, even 4.2million sgd a year is justified in some sectors. There just isn't enough monitoring. The question is are they really doing their job to deserve that pay? Or are they just sleeping!?
In light of the coming Singapore General Elections 2011, vote wisely. This is uncleyussof signing off, merely shedding light on his residence's security guard.

Thats why you have to be on guard yourself, which I don't think you are! Ahaha....
